Chicago’s Newest Duo

So, while the news may be out of the bag, it’s not too late to say how excited I am to be living in Chicago! Handsome landed a new job and moved up in March, and I have had the lucky fortune to find an unbelievable new journey for my own career. Our lives together are opening a new chapter in our new home of Chicago. I just LOVE the way that sounds.

This wasn’t a whim decision. We’ve been talking about moving to a new city for many months and juggled the idea of Chicago, Seattle, Boston, Minneapolis, Dallas, you name it. We came to a conclusion that Chicago was the full package and still forgiving on our wallets.

My new job finds me still working in social media, but at an advertising agency working with several awesome clients. I’ve landed a dream job that will let my creativity thrive. Not only am I thrilled to be starting a new chapter of my career, but I can’t wait to tear apart a new city. My first visit to Chicago was a weekend trip in late February to find Handsome an apartment, so the city is very new for me. It’s very similar to London, where I studied for four months my junior year of college. I couldn’t be more excited to explore and find “our spots” in our new home.

When I started this blog, I had intended to celebrate the everyday, and while I’ve lacked consistency in my writing, there is no doubt that I have much to celebrate. Recent readings of books and articles published about great women who have crafted great careers have been very inspiring for this new turn my life and I’m excited to share the mark they have left. But for the meantime, I’m going to enjoy all the new that’s present and take it all in.

Heart Day

Valentine’s Day is one of those days in the year that very much coincides with the title and theme of this blog. It’s that one day every year where everyone turns into a love crazy fanatic. In true loving fashion, we should instead be celebrating the ones we love every single day and today is simply just a reminder of that.

While I’m sending my love vibes to all of my favorite people around the globe today (including you in Sri Lanka, Natalie!), I am most excited to be loving on the most caring man who makes me laugh more than anyone. Cheers to you, Handsome! (Also, I’m loving on the beagle. He has the cutest and most snuggly beagle.)

The Empire State

Finally, here is my short recap of another long weekend in NYC, which provided a great touristy view and menu to remember. I had been invited by Handsome’s family to attend a weekend getaway to the Big Apple. The itinerary included visiting Ground Zero to see the Freedom tower and memorial pools, a shopping stroll through Soho, seeing The Book of Mormon on Broadway, talking long walks through Central Park, perusing a few exhibits in the Met, more shopping along 5th and Madison Avenues, and visiting the 86th floor of the Empire State Building for the first time. Lest I forget, we also had three incredible dinners with plenty of table chatter and laughs – my kind of evenings for sure. I really didn’t take many photos during the weekend (I was too busy having fun!), so enjoy this authentic Playbill.

A big thanks to Handsome’s family for the invite! I had the loveliest time. : )

New York, NY

I’m now back in the Queen City after a great weekend celebrating the boyfriend’s birthday. We flew up to New Jersey on Friday and stayed at my mom’s house with my two youngest sisters. My family even purchased a little birthday gift – a large “I Love New York” apple ornament to commemorate the weekend. So excited to display it on our tree! We had a great time with my family – played a few games, enjoyed a great dinner, and started off the birthday celebration with some pumpkin roll and red velvet cheesecake!

Saturday morning we headed to the city and started with lunch at a local burger place. While I love visiting NYC, I am quite appreciative of Charlotte’s cost of living (ha!). We had purchased matinee tickets to see Chicago on Broadway before our trip and spent the afternoon at the theater!

The show was fantastic! And much to our surprise, Billy Ray Cyrus played the lead of Billy Flynn. We searched for Miley, but she was nowhere to be found. After the show, we walked over to Radio City Music Hall and Rockefeller Center where we ran into these holiday favorites:

We then braved the crowd for a photo in front of the Christmas tree. Cheese! This year’s tree was from a two towns over from my hometown. Exciting!

We then headed to Saks Fifth Avenue to check out the beautifully decorated window displays and to do a little shopping before having dinner with one of my greatest friends from college, JB. She had booked us a reservation at Cafe Select, a fondue restaurant in Soho (so trendy!) and we enjoyed a bottle of wine and some tasty fondue among the three of us. I was so glad to have one of the best people in my life finally meet Handsome. So happy we got to spend time with you, JB! Xoxo.

Sunday started off rainy, so we opted to ditch our original plan to go ice skating in Central Park and instead spent the day at the Met seeing a few exhibits. We both enjoyed the large Monet collection the best.

Our final stop before saying goodbye to the Big Apple was the New York City Public Library, which is actually one of my favorite spots. I could sit there all day and just admire the silence that you can find in a city that never sleeps. We were sad to leave such a great weekend behind, but we’ll be heading back to NYC in January with the boyfriend’s family for another jam packed weekend.

Since today is the boyfriend’s official birthday, we will be continuing the festivities with a home cooked dinner and treats at a local dessert bar. Happy birthday to you, Handsome! Looking forward to many more days to celebrate with you. I love you : )
